北京工商大學是北京市高水平研究型大學。學校辦學始于1950年，1999年經(jīng)教育部批準由北京商學院與北京輕工業(yè)學院合并，機械工業(yè)管理干部學院并入組建而成。合并組建后的北京工商大學步入了新的發(fā)展時期，綜合實力顯著增強，現(xiàn)已發(fā)展成為理、工、經(jīng)、管、法、文、藝等學科相互支撐、協(xié)調(diào)發(fā)展的多科性大學。學校將按照“創(chuàng)新、開放、特色、質(zhì)量”的總體發(fā)展方針，堅持“商科做強、工科做精、工商融合、雙輪驅(qū)動”的辦學思路，奮力譜寫全面建設高水平研究型大學新篇章。
